L. Russell Cooley

Mr. L Russell Cooley was born April 1, 1901 near Lucerne, Mo., and departed this life at the Research hospital in Kansas City December 6, 1952.

He attended the country school and graduated from the Unionville High School in May 1919.

He was married to Miss Rhea Statton, June 16, 1927 and to this union were born four children, Caryl Susan, Jo Ellen, Kathleen and Jon.

Mr. Cooley, a lawyer, had been employed by the Travelers Insurance Company twenty-nine years. He attended the University of Missouri and was a graduate of the old Kansas City School of Law. He also held a master's degree in law from the latter school. While a student at the Kansas City School of law, he was employed in the offices of McCune, Caldwell, and Downing. After his graduation he was employed by The Travelers Insurance Co, in whose employ he continued until his death.

He was active in Boy Scout affairs and served as a troop committeeman of troop No. 50 at the Broadway Methodist church of which he was a member. He also was an honorary member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Also, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.

Mr. Cooley leaves his wife, a son, and three daughters, all of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Ray Lowry and Mrs. Lieu James, both of Lucerne and Mrs. Dave Purdy, 6101 Paseo, Kansas City and a half sister, Mrs. Noel Tipton, and his stepmother, Mrs. Jalie Cooley, both of Lucerne.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 o'clock Monday December 8th at Newcomer chapel, conducted by Dr. Burnell L. Schubel, minister of the Broadway Methodist church. Interment in Mount Moriah cemetery.
