Effingham - John E. Cooley Sr., 85 of Effingham died at 5:03 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham, with burial in Oakridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effngham, and for one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Cooley was born March 19, 1914, in Montrose, the son of John Walter and Marie (Claar) Cooley. He married Cecyle Del Merry in 1937.
He was a retired employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation Highway Department, with 23 years of service; member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham Masonic Lodge 149 and Scottish Rites Bodies of Danville.
Survivors include his wife; son, John (wife, Patricia) of Sugar Land, Texas' daughter, Mrs. Alan (Judy) Wyneken of Bonita, California; brother, Charles of Effingham; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.
