OBITUARY

S. W. (BERT) COOLEY

Samuel Wilbert (Bert) Cooley was born Dec. 6, 1871, at Osceola, Iowa. He was the son of Albert and Calista Cooley.

On Feb. 27, 1895, he was married to Ollie Sefrit. Three children were born to this union. During the earlier years of their marriage Mr. Cooley was engaged in the retail hardware business in southern Iowa.

In 1905, the family moved to Chariton where Mr. Cooley operated a hardware and implement store for over 40 years. After operating several other businesses he retired in 1953. In 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Cooley moved to Redfield to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Rubie Forsyth.

Mr. and Mrs. Cooley observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in February, 1958. Mr. Cooley was an active member of the First Methodist church in Chariton for over 50 years. In 1957, he transferred his membership to the Redfield Methodist church.

He has been preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ollie Cooley of Redfield, two sons, Melvin Cooley of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth Cooley of Davenport, one daughter, Mrs. Rubie Forsyth of Redfield, one granddaughter, Mrs. Carol Hughes of Davenport, two brothers, William Cooley of Hardin, Mont., Marvin Cooley of Sidney, Mont., one sister, Mrs. Laura Kerns of Hardin, Mont., and a number of nephews and nieces.

Mr. Cooley was held in deep affection by his family and will be long remembered by his many friends and neighbors for his outstanding integrity and sincere concern for others.

He has been in failing health for the past two months and passed away on May 17, 1958, at the age of 86 years, five months and 11 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 20, at 1:30, at the First Methodist church in Chariton, with the Rev. Lester C. Hall officiating. Interment was at the Chariton cemetery. The Beardsley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
