William Bozsah/Bozarth m. 12 Jan. 1809 Rebecca Pettit, per Burlington County (NJ) Marriage Records, Book B, 1810-1919. (The original was carelessly copied as "William Bosah" and the date given as "1-13-1839" in H. Stanley Craig's Burlington County Marriages, page 26.) William and Rebecca Bozarth deeded land in Northampton Township, Burlington County, NJ in 1834 (Deed Book N-5, page 83) and their son Mark, was born in NJ in 1836. Some time after these events they moved to Williamsburg Township, Clermont County, OH, where they are recorded in the 1850 census as William Bosart/Bozart, 73, farmer; Rebecca, 60; Emos/Amos, 22; Mark, 14; and Catharine Pettit, 99 and blind, all born in NJ. In this household was Nancy M. Garrison, 1.
Nearby in Clermont County was Joseph Bosier (since identified as Joseph Bonaparte Bozarth, born in Mount Holly, Burlington County, NJ), 26, laborer; Elizabeth, 21; Lydia, 3; and Erastus, 1. The latter three were all born in OH. Joseph Bonaparte Bosier (this is the old pronunciation of "Bozarth") served in Company D, 152nd IL Infantry during the Civil War. His pension records have just been requested from the National Archives.
A short distance to the NE was William Bozarth (Jr.) at Marion, Clinton County, OH, eldest son of William & Rebecca (Pettit) Bozarth, 34, farmer, born NJ; Rebecca, 24; Rebecca J., 3; and Lewis, 1. William Bozarth, Jr., had maimed or killed another man in NJ during a fight and had to flee that state, leaving his first wife, Rebecca (Applegate) Bozarth, and his first child, William Bozarth (1835/38-1902), who also became a Civil War soldier in Company F, 23rd NJ Inf. William Bozarth, Jr. (1815-1909), served in Company C, 175th OH Infantry.
Catharine Pettit, born 1751 by the 1850 census records, was probably the Catharine Churmley who m. 5 Sep. 1774 John Pettit in Burlington County, NJ, per NJ Marriage Records: 1665-1800, by William Nelson. Confirmation or refutation of this attribution will be welcomed by this compiler. Further knowledge of the ancestry of Rebecca Pettit is desired. Recently revealed Bible records (still being studied) suggest that William Bozarth (1777-post 1850) is the son of Samuel Bozarth, of Northampton Township, Burlington County, NJ, named with a sister, Eleanor, and a brother, Samuel, in the 1801 Will of their father. (Will 12155C, Liber #40, folio 465; probated 4 Feb. 1804).
