A Virginia State Pension
From pages 93-94 of Virginia Revolutionary War State Pensions - Virginia
Genealogical Society:
(File 326) Surry Co. Ct. records 1787 to 1789 signed by Jacob Faulcon.
Depositions, 18 June 1778, by Brig. Gen. P. Muehlenburg, that George Pettit,
a soldier in the 9th Va. Regt. enlisted for two years and served his term,
and was discharged from the Service; 22 June 1787, by Dr. W. Foushee, that
Pettit says he received all his wounds in the Battle of German
Town, appears to be about 28 years of age. Certificate authorizing pension
approved by the Executive 22 June 1787. Receipts to Wm. Boyce and Wm.
Salter, signed by George Pettit, witnessed by William Phillips and James
Barlow.

apprentice Benjamin Pettit, 20 years old, 5'8 or 10", light complexion.

5 July 1783; For sale, Batsto Iron Works, at the Head of the Tide or Forks
of Egg Harbour River. [Here follows an extensive description of the works]

Pettit, Philadelphia, or to Joseph Ball, managing owner at the said
works.
Independant Journal, New York
20 August 1785; A reward is offered for the securing of Edward Shine, a
servant of the Batsto Iron Works at the forks of Egg Harbour. He is a
native of Ireland, about 5'5 or 6" high, about 21 years old. If he is
secured, notify William Richards at the works, Samuel Ogden in New York, or
Charles Pettit in Philadelphia.
