Will of Elijah Pettit of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, 1799

This is undoubtedly the son mentioned in the 1789 will of Elias Pettit. See page 8 of the April, `88 issue for an abstracted copy. The following is recorded in Will Book Vol. 1, p. 152.

In the name of God Amen! I Elijah Pettit of Derry Township Westmoreland County & state of Pennsylvania, being sick & weak of Body but of perfect soundness of mind & memory, & calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make this my last Will & Testament this eighth day of May in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred & Ninetynine

In the first place it is my Will that my Loving Wife Leah enjoy my whole Estate both Real & personal, after my Just Debts & Funeral Expenses are paid untill my son Joseph arrives at the age of Twentyone Years provided He doth take care of & educate my Children in a Decent & Christian manner In the second place it is my Will that when my said son Joseph arrives at the aforesaid age that my Lands be then sold & the Monies thence arising shall be equally Divided between my Wife Leah & my three Children viz Nancy, Joseph & Betsy to them their Heirs and Assigns forever And I do hereby constitute & Appoint my Wife Leah & my brother William Hughes Executors of this my Testament & last Will in Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand & seal the day & year first above written
