Petit Family of Market Lake, Idaho

Henry A. Petit was appointed telegraph agent of the large Market Lake, Idaho railroad station in 1889, traveling from the same post at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Born in Royalton, Wisc., 1861, he attended schools in Rockford, Ill., and Ruthven, Iowa. In 1892, he wed Alice Elizabeth Adams, daughter of J. N. and Levina Marshall Adams, at Market Lake, now Roberts, Idaho.

Their daughter, Grace J., now Mrs. Elmer Shewmaker, was born Nov. 8, 1894 at Market Lake. She wed Elmer Shewmaker in Sheridan, Mont., in 1915, and they had a son Douglas R.

Their son, Raymond A., was born Sept. 7, 1903, Ruby, Mont. He died in 1962 at Butte, and was buried at the Taylor Cemetery near Ruby. His widow Pansy lives in Butte and son, Clinton A., resides in Littleton, Colo.

Henry and Alice moved to Rochester., Mont., in 1896, where they bought a hotel. The next year they moved to Twin Bridges where Mr. Petit was named station agent for the Southern Pacific. In 1900 they moved to Ruby where they ran a general store. Henry was a postmaster from 1903 to 1924. They moved to Sunnyside, Wash., in 1928, where Mrs. Petit died 1931. Henry returned to Ruby and died at Alder in 1947. Both are buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Butte.
