I have always wondered if some of the children of Martha and Mathias Cooley might have went back to Arkansas and Missouri after the parents died since they still had family in both states. Story has it that Fronie went to California sometime after the 1900's, Fronie and her husband went to Pleas to get him to finance a well to be drilled on his place by Fronies husband. The well came up dry and Pleas lost that money he paid to have the well drilled. The story told was shortly after this Froniue and her husband left and went to California. Tom was suppose to have went to the outlaw hills on the Oklahoma and Arkansas boarder to hide from the laws, if he came out he would be killed. Scott was suppose to have stolen livestock from Pleas and was living in East of Marlow Oklahoma under a different name with his family. ( A later had contacted my grandmother back in the 1990's, said she was a descendant of William Scott Cooley and was searching for
descendants. My grandmother told her to contact me, but did not give her my number or address, my grandmother upset because I found out about Tomand Scott told her to find me just like she had found her). I never heard from thius lady. Pleas would not admit the livestock the man under the assumed name had because he said he did not want his brother killed. My aunt knew where all the family had went, but died before she was able to give me all the info on them. She did say that the family let everyone believe that Scott was dead, so he could remain alive. Tom stayed hide out. I oftened wondered if James left and went to Mexico or did like Scott and changed his name. This family was very close and kept in touch, and would help the ones that was running from the laws.

A descendant of Calvin and Kate Cooley has just subscribed to the list.
Her Calvin sure looks like Mathias's. The couple appears on the 1880
census for Arkansas as Calvin Coolley. Mary (the new subscriber) is
descended from their daughter.
Feel free to post more info, Mary.
