Ron, your email address book has probably been compromised.
Through viruses, spammers get access to addresses and then send email to
each person listed, reforming the mail header so that the From line looks
like it came from the account holder. It's an extraordinarily easy thing
to do. In fact, they simply use the same techniques that list software
uses.
Basic email lists like this "authenticate" only on the sender's address.
But, as shown here, those can be easily forged. Blocks can also be set up
by IP address, but most everyone's IP address changes each time they log
in.
