I found a copy of William's pension records on Heritage Quest. It says. "I
was born in London City, Great Britain, on the 24th June 1758."
It's curious that only Mary is listed in records as Cooley. I don't fully
subscribe to the notion that Coleys and Cooleys were one and the same
name. (Although William makes reference to "Joseph Cooley" who could
testify to his service.) The history is also somewhat contrary to what we
know about William H Cooley--born in PA with a NC heritage. Although I
haven't read the whole file, I see nothing yet to indicate that he lived
in Ohio in 1788.
I'll download the 11 pages and create a pdf file, if anyone wants to see it.
