There is no authentic, primary record of John Cooley's family. Genealogical proofs exist only for his sons James and Reuben. Edward is mentioned in a deed but the relationship is not stated. But DNA has come to the rescue! Although specific lineages are not recorded in our genes, we can compare the genetic record with the documentary record and come up with convincing evidence.
I've been corresponding with Sandra Stanton and others in an attempt to find male descendants of John Cooley. To that end, I've put together the following. This is not in any way intended to be a complete genealogy (after all, there are no daughters!) but I've added, where I can find them, links to additional information. Nor is there any guarantee that what follows is accurate. I present it as is--and to function in its only real task: determining living male descendants in hopes that we may find others who will want to have their Y chromosomes tested for markers.
Tested lines appear in red. All results match, proving the genetic connection. Please refer to additional lineages for more information.
