"MERCHANTS -- The first merchant in Otselic and in the town was George
Coley, who came here with his father, William Coley, an Englishman, who was
a colonel in the American army during the Revolutionary war and settled in
Otselic, where Hiram Dutton now lives, and died there Nov. 30, 1843, aged
85, and Sibyl, his wife, Jan. 26, 1824, aged 66. George Coley, who was
keeping tavern on the site of the one recently burned there, opened a store
in that building in 1812 and traded till about 1830, when he went to Otsego
county. He subsequently returned to Otselic, and engaged in farming, and
afterwards went West."
