I just found it - Jim and I are looking at the same John (we believe that Elizabeth Cooley and E.C. Cooley are siblings). I thought the Bearden name was interesting too, and I'm assuming then that Martha preceeded James in death.
I also found the notice in the "Boons Lick Times" dated June 20, 1846 that John Cooley hung himself and was in jail for the rape of his daughter. But I believe you may have that already.

Wow! This is great! It will prove to be a really big clue for Jim's John
and deserves a lot of study. The thing is that if James Cooley is who I
think he is, he probably didn't have any children. If true, these were
probably his closest living relatives.
The mention of William Bearden is going to be of great interest to Jim.
