Sorry, I am horribly late to the party! I'm finally getting a chance circle back around to my White line and back to trying to trace them from Casey County, KY back into North Carolina. Part of my interest in sorting through the Cooley lines is to see if it leads to more related White families. The more I look at the Cooley lines, the more names I recognize! You asked about an obit for Nancy Jane Moore and I have a snippet from the Clinton Public newspaper from DeWitt County, Illinois that is attached. Nancy died shortly after arriving in California as the family was moving there from Illinois in 1880. I think that they were going to California to help with a ranch owned by his daughter-in-laws family (Lewis) in Sonoma. Her memorial on Find-a-Grave is here:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=White&GSiman=1&GScid=8144&GRid=79450661& My father has visited her gravesite in CA and that of her husband, Eli White, in KS. Both tombstones are inscribed "Born in Casey Co, KY" which I find fascinating. Eli's Find-a-Grave record is here:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=white&GSfn=eli&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=23819246& I've never seen any other tombstone where their place of birth was mentioned so prominently, and it is on both. Why was it important enough to inscribe on their tombstones? Nancy's record in my tree on Ancestry.com is here:

Nancy's mother, Elizabeth Cooley, is buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in DeWitt, IL. Her Find-a-Grave record is here:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=moore&GScid=108449&GRid=22668840& and her record in my tree on Ancestry.com is here:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/21277/person/-1088854706. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Cooley and Sarah Willis. I'm not sure how much detail to go into until I what other folks are interested in, but I will give a few more details: Nancy Jane Moore married Eli White in Casey Co., KY in about 1842. The family moved to Sangamon, IL after 1847 and were there for the 1850 census. Eli White was the son of George White and Jane\Jean Davison\Davidson (the spellings are all over the place!). George died in Casey County in 1824, shortly after Eli's birth. I believe Eli lived with his brothers and sisters until he was bound out to Edward Shears. George White owned quite a bit of land in Casey County and I believe that Eli used his inheritance to buy property in Sangamon, IL. There is a lot of incorrect information on George White on Ancestry.com, which probably comes as no surprise to folks who spend time there. Some names that appear repeatedly in my tree are: Mitchell, Willis, Hickman, Minor, Moore, Clavier, Davison\Davidson. There are also ties to most of the families in Casey County, KY who were there in the 1820's - Coulter, Hutchinson, Thomas, Lewis, Day.... I am related to Eli through his son William M. White. William was married to Julia Colletta Lewis, daughter of James H. Lewis and Ann Maloney. This Lewis line is related through marriage to the Meriwether Lewis line, but they are not a direct line and this is clearly shown by Y-DNA. But, this Lewis line is the John Lewis line which is the first "white" family to settle in Missouri and well documented in the book "John Lewis - the Lost Pioneer". They are also intermarried with Daniel Boone's family and have ties to George Washington through the Ball family. There is some relationship with the Lincoln family as well, but probably just because they were neighbors. Okay, now I feel like I am rambling. If anyone is interested in these folks, please let me know. I stole the genealogy habit from my father and he is planning a trip out to KY, IL and OH for some time within the next year. He is retired and has time to travel. Hopefully, he will find loads of good stuff! Also, if anyone has any ties to the famous harness racing horse, Dan Patch, please let me know. This is one of those family legends that I can't seem to track down. I know someone was involved with him and there are loads of horse folks in the family, I just can't figure out the specifics.
