If Perrin's William survived beyond 1859, this is the only man I can find
who matches. All we know about William after 1850 is that he was in Oregon
at his brother's death.

1860 William Cooley, 51, auctioneer, KY, Solano County, CA
1870 William Cooley, 63, auctioneer, KY, Yreka, Siskiyou, CA
1880 William Cooley, 71, farmer, KY-NC-VA, Yreka, Siskiyou, CA

He's living alone in 1860, with a young housekeeper in 1870, and married
to a 24 year old wife named Louisa, of German extraction.

He's listed in the 1885 Directory for Yreka as "Cooley, William -
auctioneer & commission merchant"
http://genealogytrails.com/cal/sisk/1885directory.html).

From http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~casiskiy/Registers/1879/1879GRAL.htm

Cooley, William 70 Kentucky Auctioneer Yreka

He's also on the 1867 Great Register.

Parents born in NC/VA would be consistent, but that's certainly no proof.
If it's him, what happened to his family?
