Morris James Cooley of Fort Worth was found dead at 8:45 p.m. Thursday
by a curb in the 1000 block of South Lamar.
Justice of the Peace S. T. Chandler Sr. returned an inquest verdict of
natural death. Found in the street by a passing motorist, Cooley was first
believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run driver.
Accident Investigator Bob Winters said doctors told him Cooley probably
died of a heart attack. A freight handler for Red Ball Motor Freight, 1210
South Lamar, Cooley punched out on the time clock at 8:32 p.m. Thirteen
minutes later the 40-year-old workman was dead two blocks away.
Winter theorized that Cooley, recently transferred here from Fort
Worth, dropped dead while waiting at a mid-block bus stop. He said the
victim scratched one knee falling off the curb and bumping a parked car.
Funeral arrangements are pending in Marrs-Mundy-Quill Funeral Home.
