Michael, this is a long shot but…Tennessee State Library and Archives, Stewart County Court Minutes 1817-1819 (WPA Records) - #268 says: … court appoints William Cherry guardian to Burnetta Mathews Cooley, daughter of Cornelius Cooley, deceased. You've come up with the family Burnetta, and Mathews in with the Cooleys. Perhaps there is a connection there.
