New Cooley DNA results

Howdy,

First, I've updated my new index to include the NY Dutch Coles. (I say
Cole because that's the way they would have pronounced Kool and Cool,
etc.)

The test results for Abraham Cowley of Henrico Co VA have come in. The
tester most closely matches CF09, what I've nicknamed the "North Carolina
Cluster."

Matching on 10 of the first 12 markers is not that encouraging, but he's a
genetic distance of 3 and 4 with the others in the group. This is turning
out to be a big, sprawling group. Just what it means, I can't say.

Abraham was the last of the early Cooleys I had on my to-do list, although
I have since added John Cooley (1749-1813) and Abigail Lippincott of New
Jersey.

So, what's next for us? So far, John Cooley is the only identified Cooley
of his generation of our haplotype. We have two matches with Wm H and
James of PA, but they were a couple of generations younger than John.
Other than the DNA, the only clue we have is the 1880s bio of Wm which
said his family came from NC and that his father was William. That may or
not be true, but perhaps John had a nephew named William who went to PA by
the 1790s. Perhaps.

One more weak update. I've wondered about the Jacob Cooley in Luzerne
County in 1810 as a possible link. He and his family disappeared. A James
Cooley and Jacob Cooley, both born in PA c1790-1800, show up in Canada,
then Michigan. A researcher thinks--but has no proof--that Jacob of
Luzerne might have been their father. I found out the other day that a
descendant of the James of PA, Can, and MI has tested and is a match to
the "Benjamin cluster." At this point, the connection between that group
and Jacob Cooley of Luzerne is weak, but I'm taking him off my hot list
for now.
