Thanks Michael! Very interesting.

I think we may have to wait for many R1a men - and a few Cooleys - to take
the new Big Y test at FTDNA before we can narrow down the geographical home
region of our Cooleys in Europe using Y-DNA SNPs. (Link to Big Y test

That being said, I'll bet it is northern England - southern Scotland most
recently -- and before that what is now Norway. And during the last Ice
Age, long before surnames, our Cooleys lived in the area near the Black Sea
(which was a fresh water lake then) in what is now the Ukraine and Southern
Russia.
