Interesting autosomal DNA matches

Regular list contributor, Gloria Tanner--a recently proven descendant of
Perrin Cooley Sr (1769-1840+) through his son John (who married secondly
Martha Bearden)--has an autosomal match to Jack Cooley, a descendant of
Perrin C Cooley, born 1820 in Missouri.

We know that Jack's Perrin C Cooley was of our Cooleys for several
reasons. He was not only born in the right place and time, but Jack's
Y-DNA is a match to the Stokes County Cooleys. And, of course, there's the
matter of the name Perrin, a name shared by four known Cooleys and by
Perrin Green, a grandson of Perrin Cooley Sr.

*But* we've not been able to find the genealogical connection between
Perrin C Cooley and the others because we can't determine who his father
was. The best we've come up with is that he was an unknown son of Perrin
Sr's. If that's true, Jack and Gloria would be 5th cousins.

That Perrin C's father is an unidentified son of Perrin's makes some sense
because Perrin had four young males in his household by 1810 (we presume
they're all sons--three of whom are known). Another presumed son, Perrin
Jr, was not born until about 1813. This indicates there may have been a
fifth son who died young. As Perrin had two sons by 1800--and only one of
them is known (James) we can guess that this unknown was born just before
1800,making him at least 20 at Perrin C's birth. Four of the sons,
William, James, John, and Perrin are (we think) identified. But we have
only one hardcore genealogical record, that of the estate record of James
Cooley (1797-1858), which names his living brothers William, and Perrin,
and the heirs of his deceased brother John. But the stickler here is that
he does not name the heirs of the apparent fifth son, which we presume to
be deceased.

Note that nothing has been found that names Perrin Sr as the father of
these brothers but I don't anyone would disagree that the circumstantial
evidence is *very* strong.

So, we have genealogical proof of Gloria's descent from Perrin Sr's son
John. We've long had the genetic proof--and good circumstantial
evidence--of Jack belonging to the Stokes Cooleys, and now we have a
genetic tie between Jack and Gloria.

Gloria and Jack match with more than 3,000 contiguous SNPs on chromosome 5
and more than 7,000 SNPs on chromosome 6. The prediction is that they are
3rd to 5th cousins. Our guess that they could be 5th cousins is right
smack dab within that range.

I've put together a temporary webpage which, I hope, better demonstrates
the possibilities. I had considered that James's brother Perrin was Perrin
C instead of Perrin Jr but it doesn't quite work--if for no other reason,
what now do we do with Perrin Jr? So, my present thought is that we're
where we started, but the position is much, much stronger with the DNA
evidence.

Here's the page:

Oops...One more thought: If these SNPs came down via two lines from Perrin
Sr, then there may be others descendants of Perrin Sr who has them. So
far, as far as I know, no other Cooley matches. (I don't and Don doesn't.)
For that matter, they may not have come from Perrin at all but from his
wife, which would be almost more exiting as we'd have a DNA clue as to her
identity.

Thoughts?

Sorry for being so long winded again. Maybe the "pictures" will help. :(
