Soundex Conversion
The Soundex code for "" is
.
My extended version
The Soundex
coding system was patented in 1918 and 1922 by Robert C Russell and Margaret
King Odell. A variation was used by the WPA during the 1930s to index
like-sounding names found on the 1880 census. This helped researchers
identify misspellings and other common variations of surnames.
It works like this:
For STRATTEN
- Preserve the first letter
STRATTEN
- Strike out the 2nd of consecutive consonants
STRATTEN
- Stike vowels (other than the first letter)
STRATTEN
- Code the first three remaining consonants
STRATTEN
which becomes S363
But the N is left out. My system codes all remaining consonants:
S3635
