Records of Weakley County, Tennessee
13 JAN 1828 - Robert Wells and Sarah Wells executed power of Attorney to George
Cooley, Reuben Rorie and George R Steel in connection with the sale of a certain
parcel of negroes, etc. " for Elizabeth and Juncy Hubbard."
2 MAR 1830 - Shugart McElmore of the county of Madison, Tennessee deeded to
George Cooley of the county of Weakley, 100 acres of land out of original Entry
No. 321 granted by the State of Tennessee to John Charlton by Grant No 16539:
$300.00.
10 OCT 1831 - William H Johnson and George Cooley paid back taxes of $14.38 on
140 acres of land entered in the name of Robert Warson by entry no. 455 in the
county of Weakley on the North side of the South Fork of Olbion River in the 2nd
range and 5th section of the 10 surveyor's district.
Witnesses: A G Bondurant and William Todd
10 Dec 1834 - George Cooley deeded to Samuel W. Hughes 100 acres out of John
Charlton grant No. 16539 - $575

20 DEC 1836 - George Cooley collected on a note.
25 Nov 1839 - "For value received given in hand, paid by Lee Roary, I hereby
assign and transfer and make over to the said Lee Roary, all of the right,
title, interest and claim I have in and to all the negroes and their increase
that I will be entitled to at the death of Sarah Wells, it being the estate of
William Hubbard, deceased, late of Stewart County, in the State of Tennessee,
the said interest hereby intended to be conveyed there in the right of my wife,
Nancy Cooley, late Nancy Hubbard, and one of the legal heirs and representatives
of said William Hubbard deceased, given unto my hand and seal this 25th day of
November in the year of our Lord, 1839.

25 Nov 1839 - George Cooley deeded a certain tract of land to W T Wilson to
cover indebtedness of several hundred dollars.
17 Feb 1840 - George Cooley indebted to Samuel Steel in the amount of $232.96
deeded to W T Wilson a certain tract of land where said cooley now lives and
some stock, furniture, etc.
11 Dec 1842 - George Cooley indebted to Joseph R Atkins
13 Feb 1847 - Moses Loman acknowledges debt to George Cooley
13 Sep 1847 - Moses Loman makes note to George Cooley
8 Jan 1853 - W W Gleeson deeded to George Cooley, 145 acres of land in Range 2,
Sec. 6, Grant No. 5379, beginning at a poplar on the West boundary of a 660
acres tract in the name of the University of North Carolina - $200.00

Subject: Jonathan Lycurgus Cooley (1842-1926) m Celia Langworthy
This is the Jonathan Cooley who, according to his death certificate, was
the son of George W Cooley and Nancy Hubbard. I found the marriage at
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hal/Langworthy/ps14/ps14_111.html
. It cites Langworthy, William Franklin, The Langworthy Family, Some
Descendants of Andrew and Rachel (Hubbard) Langworthy, Tuttle, Rutland,
Vermont, 1940, p.174.
and states their marriage date as Mar 17, 1920.
