Re: More good test results

Back in the 80s when I first realized that John was a generation older
than my Edward, my first thought was that John could have been an uncle,
that he might have been the head of an extended family. Seeing Pat
Walker's sheet changed my mind about that. Even when all of the holes in
his work started showing up, the basic family structure made sense. The
DNA results have largely confirmed the relationships. But the addition of
Edmond, WMC and now likely Wm Henry, is beginning to give me pause. Did
John have a brother that died early in NC? Did he have a brother who went
to PA?

Several of John's descendants match 67/67 markers to one another--over 6,
7, and 8 generations. It's not a stretch to think that they will closely
match over one more generation. In other words, the majority of the
patrilineal descendants of John's father might still match 67/67.

I think you'll be correct in your prediction. What will it tell us? To a
degree, nothing until we find the genealogy. But it would suggest that the
PA Cooleys, if of a collateral line, were probably not separated by more
than one generation, in which case we will not only need to learn WHC's
father, we will need to know whether his grandfather was John. If he
wasn't, then we need to learn who WHC's grandfather was. And then, to tie
it all together, who his great-grandfather was. It's a tall order.

The test kit for Jacob Cooley Sr (1735-1816), m Sarah Jordan--presumed
grandson of Abraham Cowley of Henrico County--is in. This is the last "big
chunk" of the early American Cooleys--that I know of.
