John's origins are disputed. Some say he was born in Ireland or Scotland
others that he was born in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania camp is also
divided as to his parentage. There is a John listed in the will of Francis
McClintock and wife Jane. Other researchers attribute him to a William
McClintock. In respect to his birthplace, the DAR accepts Pennsylvania so,
for now, I will too.
The following is from Chapter 4 of The McClintick-McClintock Clans of
America: 122
His will is dated 25 Sept 1843 and is recorded in Book A, pg. 202, Clark
County, IN. John apparently became blind, or near blind, in his later years
and moved to live with his son Findley in Johnson County. He was a Baptist,
and donated land to the Hopewell Baptist Church, for a new building, and
cemetery. He was a horse breeder, and very successful farmer. John must have
been a very civic minded person, interested in politics, serving on juries,
and being appointed coroner twice.
I lifted the following excerpt (Baird's History of Clark County, published
in 1909, pp. 670-671) from
http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/bankhead/435/biojohnmcclintick.htm:
In 1839, when twenty-three years old, Mr. Emery Sylvester married
CAROLINE McCLINTOCK member of one of the old, esteemed pioneer families of
the county. Her grandfather, JOHN McCLINTOCK, came from Ireland, when twelve
years of age accompanied by two brothers, one of whom, named SAMUEL
McCLINTICK, settled near the Charlestown Pike, north of
Jeffersonville.
John prospered after reaching manhood, and when he died was the owner of
several hundred acres of farm land in Jeffersonville township. He left a
son, known as JOHN McCLINTOCK, JR., who in 1809 married MARY PROVINE, a
native of Tennessee, and became one of the county's substantial citizens. He
owned a large farm, five miles north of Jeffersonville, on the road that
runs from Utica township west to Blackiston's Mill, near Cementville.

It's likely John McClintick's sons, John and Samuel, and his son-in-law,
William Eakin, who
served with Capt
John Norris of the Indiana Militia at the Battle of Tippecanoe (7 Nov
1811). Amos Goodwin, also found on the same roll, was likely John Eakin's
half-brother.

The Kentucky Years
It is said, although I don't know by what authority, that John's
daughter, Rebecca, was born in Jefferson county, Kentucky (then still part
of Virginia) in 1789. John and his brother Samuel are found on the tax list
for that year as John McClintic and Samuel McClintic, so this does make
sense.
