Three of Wesley's daughters married Cooleys: Mina and Mahala Johnson
married brothers David and Jacob Cooley, respectively, and Araminta Johnson married their cousin, Joseph
William Cooley.
I received the following email from Jon C Cooley, "Chris", in 2008. It
describes the tragic death of Mina (Johnson) Cooley.
I talked to my Dad yesterday. He said that Mina was a well loved women of
the community. She had become pregnant at 41, so my grandfather was going
to be an older sibling (at age nine). David and Mina had an outside
cellar, which she tripped going down the stairs. They didn't have much in
regards to medical facilities/technology back then. Both my great grandma
Mina and the baby she was carrying passed away. My grandfather's older
sister Alma Bernice Cooley took on several of the duties Mina did (cooking,
cleaning, etc...). For a time period David moved the family out to (I
believe he said Tennessee), but then they moved back and David married
Jalie Estella Strauser. My dad said it was hard on his new grandmother
since Mina was so well liked in the community.
Jalie and David had one daughter together Olive Lucille Cooley, who is
still living in a nursing home in Missouri. My dad's aunt Olive is the one
who gave him the picture of David, Mina, Jacob, and Mahala.
