Name: Elizabeth Richardson
Born: 6 May 1781
Died: 1 Apr 1854
Buried:
Elizabeth's first husband, Isaac Simpson, along with
two of her brothers, died in an accident on their property in 1809. They had
at least one child, Ann R Simpson. She married secondly,
Isaac Crume (1792-1839) on 1 Nov 1814 in Butler County, OH. She had at least
one child with him, William Richardson Crume, born 5 Apr 1818 in College
Corner, Butler county and died the same place, 29 Apr 1891. Some online
lineages give her three additional children with Crume: Otho Pliny Crume and
presumed sisters Maria and Sarah Crume.
I received these marvelous remarks in an August 2008 email from Don
McAuley.
...I discovered a note written by Matthew Richardson to the school auditor
requesting return of School District Abstract # 5, 7 & 8 by his Grand
Son, John Simpson. I wondered to myself if this John Simpson could possibly
be the son of of Issac Simpson and Betsey Richardson. I did not copy the
microfilm this note was preserved on. The note was dated 3/29/1833.
In all the years I've been researching this line I had never even
considered that Isaac Simpson and Elizabeth Richardson had any more than the
one child, Ann Simpson. To think that Isaac had another child is potentially
a great breakthrough in the search for his own lineage.
I'd always puzzled over the fact there were so many children in the Crume
household as early as 1820. Six years of marriage seemed not to be enough
time. I had concluded, however, that he had probably been previously married
and simply left it there as there didn't seem to be any benefit to my
research in pursuing the question. It's time to look again at the census
entry with fresh eyes.

Parsing it out, we might come up with this:
1 male 0-9 William Richardson Crume (1818-1891)
2 males 10-15 Otho Pliny Crume?
John Simpson, b c1806-1810
2 males 26-44 Isaac Crume (1792-1839)
?
1 female 0-9 Maria or Sarah?
1 female 10-15 Ann R Simpson (1805-1855)
1 female 26-44 Elizabeth (Richardson) Simpson Crume (1781-1854)
I think we can seriously consider that Isaac and Betsy did have a second
child and, possibly, even a third. I've speculated John's birth as late as
1810 considering he might have been born of his father posthumously. The
next big question is, did John survive well past 1833?
