The following is found on the NICKELL-L archive at rootsweb.com. The
submitter, Don Nickell, must have typoed on the date. Certainly, he meant
"9-12-1938."
Information on Anne's marriage to John McDOWELL, and their family, came
from a letter from James T Haynes to David Franklin Nickell, dated
"9-12-1838." An extract from this letter follows:
"I don't remember her husband's name ... your great grandmother, Anne Curry
married first Nickell (John), father of your grandparent Isaac Nickell,
& second John McDOWELL, a Baptist preacher. They had two sons and one
daughter; William McDowell went to Kansas when I was about 10 years of age.
The other son, JA (John Alexander) was a neighbor of ours until I left there
the last time, fifty one years ago the 5th of last July."
"He was the finest example of a Christian I ever saw, one whom it was good
to know & he raised a fine family, four boys & four girls; three of
them only living. John Alexander was his name; always Uncle Alec. His
sister, Jane, married Morgan Alexander DARNALL, who a few years later
answered his country's call in 1861, served through the Civil War, was made
a Captain & at the end of the war was breveted Colonel."
"John COTTLE was the bondsman when Anne married John McDowell."
Don goes on to say that Anna's parents were James Curry, Jr and Sarah
Young.
Anna appears on the 1880 census for Banks township, Upshur county, WV
(page 212) with her son, John McDowell.

Sandy and forgive me, ______ (I don't have your name) your Curry charts
caught my eye and I did some comparing with the information I have and found
that we share some of the information. To start let me say that what I have
was shared with me by an elderly Curry descendant. I know that he spent
years researching this and put together the information in Journal form and
donated it to a couple Genealogy Libraries. His information comes from
Chalkley's, DAR records and family reports and we all know how records can
be incorrect. Your information could be correct, mine could be correct and
we all could be half correct. Thought maybe I would share my information and
see what we can come up with, perhaps someone else on the list can help
also. I am interested in the William Curry b. 1670 married Sally Young
before 1717 in Ireland according to ______ and William Curry born about 1700
in Ireland and Sarah Young b. 1700-1710 in county Antrim, Northern Ireland
according to Sandy. I have John and Anna____ Curry as the parents. Here
goes, this is from the Journal:
Little is known about John and Anna Curry and their life in Ireland. They
were born, reared and married in the Ulster Province of Ireland. According
to DAR records and tombstone readings, they lived in County Down. Their
children were born in Ireland. It is not know for certain if John ever came
to America. Perhaps he died in Ireland and Anna emigrated with her children.
Or perhaps even Anna never came to America. The early records are not
specific.
