James Struthers, one of the earliest residents of Warren county,
died at his home here September 8, 1871, in the 79th year of his age. He was
born in Glasgow, Scotland, February 8, 1793, spent his entire early years in
Virginia and at Xenia, Ohio, then came to Warren county in 1832. He settled
on a farm five miles northeast of Monmouth, living there for some twenty
years then moving into the city where he was a resident until his death. He
was twice married and was the father of fourteen children, ten of whom
survived him. His funeral was held at the Second United Presbyterian church,
of which he had been a member for eleven years, Dr. J.R. Doig, Dr. John
Scott and Dr. David A. Wallace conducted the service.
